2019 Mock Draft: Fifth installment, via lottery simulator

Duke freshman forward Zion Williamson is widely considered the top prospect in the 2019 draft.

Below is my fifth 2019 NBA Mock Draft of many on the way this season. The lottery order was again determined by the Tankathon Lottery Simulator. I will continue to use the simulator throughout the season for both the draft order and mock dock drafts. (The actual lottery is May 14.)

  1. Worst draft in five years

    • Many scouts seem to agree with you. After the top four or five, no one’s sure there is a real difference-maker in the bunch. The NCAA tournament is going to determine a lot of it.

  2. For the first time there is a better than a coin flip’s chance that all three of the worst teams will not get the number 1 pick. 58% chance it goes to none of those three.

I approve of the anti tanking adjustments. I think they could go even further in adjusting the percentages. Id also like to see each of the playoff teams given a 1% chance, or a number that barely or doesnt differ from the teams that just missed the playoffs. Giving playoff teams (or every team) 1% right off the bat creates 16% (or 30% for all) chance (or 30% if all) that record doesnt matter to win the lottery, reducing the incentive for tanking even further, especially for borderline playoff teams.

My spin on the SIM machine today netted Cavs the 6th pick.
