Beilein returning to Michigan; won’t be Pistons coach

John Beilein announced he will be returning to Michigan, pulling his name from consideration to be the next Pistons coach.

John Beilein withdrew from consideration to be the new head coach of the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, perhaps putting the team one step closer to making a decision on filling the position.

Beilen announced on Twitter he will be continuing to coach the Michigan Wolverines next season.

With Beilein, who met with Pistons executives to discuss the Pistons job, pulling himself out of consideration for the job, it would appear to make Dwane Casey the frontrunner to land the position.

The former Toronto Raptors coach also recently met with Pistons officials to talk about becoming the Pistons’ new head coach.

Detroit fired Stan Van Gundy after this season.
