Butler prefers Heat, but Wolves don’t care, sources say

Star swingman Jimmy Butler remains a member of the Timberwolves ... for now.

Jimmy Butler has informed the Minnesota Timberwolves that the Miami Heat are his preferred destination in a trade, according to The New York Times, but Butler had best beware — the Timberwolves don’t appear to care.

“They could give a (expletive) where he wants to play,” one league source told Amico Hoops. “The Timberwolves are going to make the best deal for them. What he wants doesn’t factor into it, at all.”

Butler requested a trade last week. While the Timberwolves are indeed attempting to deal Butler, “they aren’t concerning themselves with where he’d like to go next,” another source added.

One opposing general manager who has been involved in trade talks with the Timberwolves told Amico Hoops that his team will continue to pursue Butler despite the Heat news.

“It’s pretty clear they are doing their due diligence at the moment,” the GM said of the Timberwolves. “They’re not rushing into anything. That’s smart. But I’d say just about anyone who’s interested in him at this point has a chance. There’s no real advantage (for the Heat).”

The GM then laughed.

“At this point, they might not trade him to the Heat out of spite,” he added.

Along with the Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets are reportedly among those who have expressed interest in Butler.

“We’re going to honor his request but we’re not going to do a bad deal,” Timberwolves head coach and president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau told reporters. “We’re trying to make the best deal for the Timberwolves.”

  1. Wolves might not care, but I do. I have 5 minutes, and access to ESPN Trade Machine 😀
    Ok, so
Cavs get Tyler Johnson, and Dieng
    Heat get Butler, and TT
Wolves get Babbitt, Clarkson, Korver, Heat 2019 1st rounder, Cavs 2019 2nd rounder

    • Haha! I know I myself can be dangerous with five minutes and a trade machine! Thanks for the scenarios! – Sam
