Cavaliers-Celtics produced big numbers

The game featuring former teammates LeBron James of the Cavaliers and Kyrie Irving of the Celtics drew big numbers for ABC on Sunday afternoon.

In terms of ratings, the Cavaliers-Celtics clash at TD Garden was most definitely a Sunday drive, at least according to ratings.

ESPN announced that Cleveland’s 121-99 triumph over Boston was ABC’s highest-rated NBA Sunday Showcase broadcast since 2015, according to metered-market ratings from Nielsen.

The broadcast of Cleveland’s victory drew a 3.6 metered-market rating, a 57-percent increase from last year’s game that featured San Antonio and New York (2.3).

The numbers peaked at a 4.0 from 5:15 -5:30 p.m. and again from5:45-6 p.m.

The Cavaliers-Celtics game is now the fourth-highest rated NBA broadcast of the 2017-18 season, across all networks.

In terms of cities, the Cleveland market drew a 20.5 rating, with Columbus being next in line at 8.1. Rounding out the top five markets were Norfolk (6.5), Dayton (6.2) and Birmingham (5.5).

The game produced a 5.5 rating in Boston.
