CLEVELAND — Ah, yes, the 1970s: A time for disco, Afros, big sideburns and bell-bottom jeans. For the Cavaliers, it was also a time for Austin Carr, Campy Russell, coach Bill Fitch and The Miracle of Richfield.
The Cavs will bring that sometimes glorious (and occasionally awkward) decade to life Thursday — when they sport their Wine & Gold Hardwood Classic jerseys vs. the Milwaukee Bucks. Tip-off is 8 p.m. EST at Quicken Loans Arena.
This is the Cavs’ 45th anniversary as a franchise, and Thursday is the first of nine games in which they will don the Hardwood Classic jerseys honoring their expansion era.
And for those of you who missed “The Miracle” season (I’m guessing that’s most of you), here’s a pretty awesome sample, with legendary play-by-play man Joe Tait on a portion of the call.
The Cavs are also scheduled to wear their 1970s-style uniforms on the following dates:
- Dec. 1 — vs. Washington
- Dec. 26 — at Portland
- Dec. 28 — at Phoenix
- Dec. 29 — at Denver
- Jan. 30 — vs. San Antonio
- Feb. 10 — vs. Lakers
- March 4 — vs. Washington
- April 11 — vs. Atlanta
