INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Cavaliers rookie Darius Garland missed the majority of the second day of training camp with a minor foot issue. Garland was selected with the No. 5 overall pick and also missed the first day.
“He’ll be fine,” Cavaliers coach John Beilein said.
Beilein added that Garland was “almost there” and was able to do some things on Day 2. Garland was seen after practice Tuesday going through intense shooting and ball-handling drills with assistant coaches.
Garland, 19, is 6-foot-2 and appeared in just five games with Vanderbilt last season as a freshman. The Cavs seem to think he has the talent to become an immediate starter next to second-year guard Collin Sexton.
Garland did take part in some informal team workouts and scrimmages prior to camp and left his teammates impressed.
“He has such a natural feel for the game,” Cavs forward Larry Nance Jr. said. “There are some passes he made, even playing pickup, where I was like, ‘What? How did you see him open?’”
