Cavs’ Love expected to miss six weeks

Kevin Love and the Cavaliers open the Eastern Conference finals on Wednesday.

Cavaliers forward Kevin Love is expected to miss six weeks following minor surgery on his left knee. The surgery was performed Tuesday.

Just as was the case a few years ago with his injured shoulder, Love sought a second opinion following an MRI, when it was determined surgery should be performed.

The injury means Love will miss his first All-Star game as a member of the Cavaliers.

A replacement has not been named. Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has said he would prefer to take a break and not take part in All-Star weekend. “I have plans,” he told reporters in New York.

Love is averaging 20 points and 11.1 rebounds in his third season with the Cavs. Both numbers are career-highs in Cleveland.

He reportedly aggravated the injury in Saturday’s home win over Denver.

The Cavs are working on several trade possibilities as the Feb. 23 deadline nears, sources told Amico Hoops.
