Clippers willing to offer Harris, draft picks for Leonard

The Los Angeles Clippers are willing to create a trade package built around forward Tobias Harris and the 12th or 13th pick in this year’s draft to acquire San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

Leonard has reportedly requested a trade from the Spurs and has the Los Angeles Lakers as his preferred destination. The Clippers, however, are a secondary option for Leonard as well.

The two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year only played in nine games this past season because of a lingering quadriceps injury. He was cleared by team doctors to return but was never cleared by his own doctors to play.

Leonard has grown uncomfortable with the Spurs and is ready to move on from the franchise.

The Clippers acquired Harris this past season from the Detroit Pistons in the Blake Griffin trade. The 25-year-old averaged 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists, shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 41.1 percent from three. He is slated to make $14.8 million in 2018-19 and will be a unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019.

Leonard only has one year left on his contract and will be a unrestricted free agent in 2019.
