Dudley: Warriors’ meeting about refs was ‘the worst’

Kevin Durant argues a call with referee Derrick Stafford during a game last season.

The Golden State Warriors are the flagship team of the NBA, having won back-to-back championships and three of the last four titles.

However, last season, they — Kevin Durant and Draymond Green, most notably — had prominent dustups with referees, as did several players on other teams, which became a point of much discussion.

Remember Game 1 of the Finals? (Sorry, Cavaliers fans).

The conflicts reached a point where the NBA sent executives who oversee league officiating to meet with every team.

New Brooklyn Nets forward Jared Dudley, appearing on The Woj Pod with Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, said the meeting between league representatives and the Warriors did not go well.

As in, at all.

“I heard the worst meeting was the worst,” Dudley said. “I heard it was the worst meeting… like they were turning their back on them.

“That’s what I heard.”

As if Durant, Green and the Warriors weren’t a volatile-enough bunch last season, they signed free-agent big man DeMarcus Cousins, no shrinking violent himself when it comes to NBA referees, earlier this summer.
