Fast Breaks: Cavaliers, Wolves, Grizzlies, Pistons

Small forward Deng Adel went undrafted out of Louisville and eventually signed with the Cavaliers.

As expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers have signed rookie forward Deng Adel to a two-way contract and waived forward Jalen Jones, the team announced Tuesday.

Adel went undrafted out of Louisville and had been playing for Raptors 905 of the G-League. Here is more on Adel.

Jones appeared in 16 games with the Cavs after signing a two-way deal Dec. 2. He averaged 5.1 points and 2.1 rebounds.

Minnesota is finalizing a deal to add veteran assistant coach Jerry Sichting to Ryan Saunders’ coaching staff, according to The Athletic.

Sichting played for the Larry Bird-led Boston Celtics in the 1980s and has spent a lot of time as an NBA assistant.  Saunders replaced former T-Wolves coach/president Tom Thibodeau, fired last week. Saunder is the son of the late Flip Saunders, who coached the Timberwolves, Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons.

Memphis has signed small forward Julian Washburn out of the G-League to a two-way contract and released forward Jarnell Stokes.

“Washburn, 27, has signed a pair of camp contracts with the Spurs – one in 2015 and one in 2018 – but has never appeared in a regular season NBA game,” Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors noted.

Detroit has agreed to a two-way deal with free agent guard Isaiah Whitehead, according to The Athletic.

Whitehead is a former standout at Seton Hall and has spent some time with the Brooklyn Nets. He was traded to the Denver Nuggets this past summer and waived shortly thereafter.

To make room for Whitehead, the Pistons are cutting point guard Keenan Evans, according to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.
