Free agent forward McGruder lands contract with Clippers

Swingman Rodney McGruder was waived by the Heat shortly before the end of the regular season.

Free agent wing Rodney McGruder has agreed to a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

The deal is reportedly for $15 million.

McGruder was claimed off waivers by the Clippers in late April after being released by the Miami Heat in a luxury-tax move.

He did not appear in any games with the Clippers but played 66 games for the Heat, averaging 7.6 points and 3.6 rebounds.

The McGruder signing would not impact the Clippers’ ability to sign a max free agent, such as Kawhi Leonard, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.

“The $3 million free agent hold was factored into the max slot that is available,” Marks wrote.
