For the first time in more than a half-decade, there will be a new face on FOX Sports Ohio’s broadcasts of Cleveland Cavaliers’ games.
Angel Gray will debut as the network’s new sideline reporter, starting with the Cavs’ season-opening game Wednesday night at Toronto, joining play-by-play man Fred McLeod and color analyst Austin Carr.
Gray fills the shoes of Allie Clifton. Clifton had been FSO’s sideline reporter for the last six years before departing over the summer to become a studio host for Spectrum SportsNet in Los Angeles on Lakers broadcasts.
Gray has been a basketball analyst and reporter for eight years. Most recently, she was the play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA and was an analyst on women’s college basketball games on ESPN. Like Clifton (at Toledo), Gray played four years of Division I basketball, doing so at Florida State University, from where she graduated.
FSO is also adding Cayleigh Griffin to its Cavaliers broadcast team. She will serve as host on FSO’s digital platforms and feature reporter for “Cavs HQ” and “In the Paint.”
Griffin comes to Cleveland from FOX Sports Northwest, where the covered the San Antonio Spurs.
“Angel and Cayleigh will be great additions to our existing broadcast team,” FOX Sports Ohio senior VP and GM Francois McGillicuddy said in a statement. “They bring to us a combination of basketball knowledge and storytelling skills that will enable us to expand our coverage of Cavaliers basketball at an exciting time in the franchise’s history.”
Jeff Phelps and Campy Russell return as the host and analyst of FSO’s pregame and postgame shows.
The Cavaliers tip off the 2018-19 season Wednesday night at Toronto at Air Canada Centre at 7 p.m.
