Grizzlies releasing veteran forward Casspi

Free agent forward Omri Casspi is headed back overseas.

The Memphis Grizzlies are waiving forward Omri Casspi, according to a report from Michael Wallace of Grizzlies.com.

Casspi has been sidelined with a knee injury and his return this season was uncertain, Wallace noted.

The Grizzlies were key players at the trade deadline, most notably sending center Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors for center Jonas Valanciunas, guard Delon Wright and swingman C.J. Miles.

Along with that, they traded big man JaMychal Green and guard Garrett Temple to the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Avery Bradley, and guard Shelvin Mack to the Atlanta Hawks for guard Tyler Dorsey.

Despite extensive trade talks, the Grizzlies opted to keep veteran point guard Mike Conley Jr. They could potentially trade Conley around the time of the draft.

Casspi, 30, averaged 6.3 points in 36 games with Memphis this season.
