Poythress appeared in 25 games for the Indiana Pacers last season on a two-way contract, averaged 1.0 points and 0.7 rebounds in 4.2 minutes a game, his deal being converted to a regular contract Dec. 28. He was waived by the Pacers on July 6.
The 6-foot-7, 238-pounder out of Kentucky was undrafted in 2016. He played most of that season for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Pacers’ G League affiliate, before being signed by the Philadelphia 76ers for the final six games of the season.
Poythress joins Jaylen Adams as two-way players for the Hawks.
