Hawks land Young, trade Doncic’s rights to Mavs

Trae Young was one of three first-round draft picks signed by the Hawks on Sunday.

The Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks have agreed to swap the third and fifth overall picks, according to ESPN.

The Hawks will send the third pick, Real Madrid swingman Luka Doncic, to the Mavericks for the fifth pick, point guard Trae Young of Oklahoma, ESPN reported. As part of the deal, the Mavs will send a 2019 protected first-rounder to the Hawks, per Yahoo Sports.

Doncic said he has been talking to the Mavericks. “I’m just happy to be in the NBA,” he told ESPN.

The Hawks are said to be looking to trade point guard Dennis Schroder and swingman Kent Bazemore. The Schroder move would make sense with Young coming on board.
