We’ve heard the Atlanta Hawks may be prepared to trade some draft picks, but most of us assumed it would happen in the first round.
Well, that could still be the case, but the Hawks started with the second round Thursday — when they shipped the No. 44 overall selection to the Miami Heat.
In exchange, the Heat will send the Hawks a conditional 2024 second-round pick and cash considerations.
Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk still has plenty of picks at his disposal, including the Nos. 8, 10 and 17 overall in the first round. The Hawks also own the 35th and 41st overall picks in the second.
Meanwhile, the Heat hold the now 13th overall pick … and now, the 44th.
The draft tips off at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
