Newman was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers on July 20.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard who went undrafted this year out of the University of Kansas, played in five games for the Lakers team in the Las Vegas Summer League that finished as runner-up behind the Portland Trail Blazers.
In those five games for Los Angeles, Newman scored 3.2 points in 9.8 minutes per game.
