Hornets claim point guard Mack off waivers

Shelvin Mack has been claimed off waivers by the Hornets.

The Charlotte Hornets have claimed point guard Shelvin Mack off waivers, according to Shams Charania of Stadium.

The veteran point guard had been traded by the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday to the Atlanta Hawks, who subsequently waived him.

The 6-foot-3, 203-pound Mack averaged 7.9 points and 3.4 assists for the Grizzlies, playing 22.7 minutes in 53 games (5 starts), shooting 41.4 percent from the floor, 35.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 70.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Mack, 28, was the 34th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Butler by the Washington Wizards.

He carries career averages of 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 18.5 minutes in 452 games (56 starts), with a shooting line of 42.5/33.0/73.5.
