Hornets’ Howard fined $35K for obscene gesture

Charlotte Hornets center Dwight Howard has been fined $35,000 for making an obscene gesture toward a fan.

The incident occurred during the second quarter of the Hornets’ 100-99 road loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday night.

Howard, in his first season with the Hornets after spending last year with the Atlanta Hawks, is averaging 15.5 points and 12.9 rebounds per game while shooting 59.0 percent from the field.

The eight-time All-Star is still a putrid free throw shooter, hitting 45.4 percent from the charity stripe.

Charlotte enters today with a record of 8-10, 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

Howard, 31, was fined $25,000 in early November for a similar incident in Minnesota.

  1. glad he was fined, but pocket change to him.

  2. 35K? That’s an awfully expensive middle finger. Some of the fans absolutely deserve it. They are vicious, whether they are drunk or sober. Crowds often bring out the worst behavior. Look at the fans in Boston and Philadelphia, two of the most racist cities in America. And the fans expect the players to not react, to just take the high road every single time. But these players are men. They are not going to back down from some punk in the stands.

    • I’m actually with you on this one. I think players should be allowed, within reason of course, to react to idiots in the stands.

  3. It was not a middle finger. On tv he looked like he was simulating an oral activity.
