Kanter chooses Blazers over Lakers, other serious suitors

Free-agent center Enes Kanter is headed to the Blazers after being waived by the Knicks.

Free-agent center Enes Kanter has signed with the Portland Trail Blazers, he announced on Twitter.

Kanter said he looks forward “to helping the Blazers achieve the ultimate goal of competing for a championship.”

The Trail Blazers won out over the Los Angeles Lakers and other serious suitors, ESPN reported. The Boston Celtics and Kanter were also said to have a mutual interest.

The Blazers are led by guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum — and Kanter is expected to add needed to depth to the frontcourt behind Jusuf Nurkic.

Kanter, 26, was waived by the New York Knicks last week.

He averaged 14 points and 10.5 rebounds in 44 games. He has also spent time with the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder.
