The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz all have an interest in Washington Wizards free agent Bobby Portis, according to multiple reports, including The Athletic.
Per The Athletic, Portis is seeking as much as $16 million” per year in free agency. Portis is set to become a restricted free agent, assuming the Wizards extend him a qualifying offer of $3.6 million.
That would give them the right match a contract from another team — but they are not expected to match a huge offer sheet, The Athletic reported.
Portis ended last season with the Washington Wizards following a trade with the Chicago Bulls that also involved Jabari Parker (to Washington) and Otto Porter Jr. (to Chicago).
Along with the aforementioned, the Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic also have Portis on their radars, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.
Portis, 24, averaged 14.2 points and 8.0 rebounds in 50 games this past season.
“Despite restricted free agency, Portis has a few things working for him,” Hughes wrote. “For one, there are a lot of teams with cap room. Spending won’t reach 2016 levels, when the new CBA spiked the salary cap, but there will a lot of money to go around.”
