Kawhi Leonard just won an NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors and the Los Angeles Lakers just agreed to a trade for Anthony Davis.
Now, the Lakers have their sights set on Leonard, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.
Leonard is an unrestricted free agent and it seems as if he intends to re-sign with the Raptors on a short-term contract. It may be hard to leave the world champs. If so, Leonard has been linked to the Los Angeles Clippers — not the Lakers.
But who knows what might change now that Davis had been paired with LeBron James following a deal that will send Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks to the Pelicans?
The answer may be nothing, but per Connor, the Lakers intend to find out.
It’s hard to tell who would be the third option in LA if Leonard were to sign on. He may be better than James at this stage of his career. Same goes for Davis. But when you play on LeBron’s team, you live in LeBron’s world, and all the good and bad that comes with it.
Would Leonard be content in that world when he’s clearly capable of succeeding in his own?
It seems the Lakers intend to spend the free-agency period trying to find out.
