INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Tyronn Lue shares the opinion of many in the NBA these days: Former Cavaliers coach David Blatt is worth another look.

Lue is the current Cavs coach. He worked as an assistant under Blatt for a season and a half. Blatt guided the Cavs to last season’s Finals — and a 30-11 record this year.

“He definitely deserves another chance,” Lue said of Blatt. “I thought Coach Blatt did a phenomenal job here. He taught me a lot. Just being friends with him and getting a chance to understand him was great for me.”

Lue isn’t alone. Three current and two former NBA coaches have told Amico Hoops they hold Blatt in high regard.

“He can coach, period,” said one. “He’s gonna continue to prove that in this league. Someone will give him another chance. Maybe us.”

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Warriors coach Steve Kerr are other known supporters of Blatt.

Blatt reportedly has interviewed with the Knicks and is said to have drawn interest from the Lakers.

He could also be considered for several other jobs should more coaching dominoes fall this offseason.

“I know a lot of guys around here, we talked about it the other day, they miss him and his presence,” Lue said.

“I would just like to just stay in contact with him. Hopefully, he gets another job in this league.”
