Heat’s Whiteside leaves bench before final buzzer in loss

Heat center Hassan Whiteside bailed early during the loss Tuesday to Orlando

Maybe he had dinner reservations, or possibly a hot date, but whatever the case may be, Miami Heat 7-footer Hassan Whiteside had seen enough Tuesday night, departing the game against the Orlando Magic early.

Whiteside was sitting on the bench and wasn’t happy about it, as he was on the shelf the entire fourth quarter, and decided with 40.5 seconds left in the game he had enough of just watching.

The Heat fell to the Magic at home, 105-90. Whiteside has sat out the fourth quarter in five of the last six games, and apparently has had enough.

Following the game, Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said he didn’t know what was going on with Whiteside, and why he had left the game early.

“Probably extremely upset like we all are,” Spoelstra said. “Everybody, if they’re angry, frustrated, pissed, (need to) funnel it into the team until we get the changes that we want right now.”

The Heat have been struggling as of late, having dropped nine of their last 13 games.

Whiteside scored 12 points in the setback, he did not speak to reporters after the loss.
