Hawks waive Bird, Mack; will not buy out Lin, Dedmon

Former Celtics guard Jabari Bird was traded to the Hawks and waived Thursday.

The Atlanta Hawks are waiving guards Shelvin Mack and Jabari Bird, acquired in separate trades on Thursday, according to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In order to make room for those two, the Hawks had to waive swingman Daniel Hamilton, Vivlamore noted.

Mack was acquired in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for guard Tyler Dorsey. Bird came via the Boston Celtics.

“General manager Travis Schlenk told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution prior to the deadline that he was interested in moving players only to secure future salary cap space and draft picksm” Vivlamore reported. “He was also adamant that he would not take on contract money without what he considered proper compensation.”

The Hawks are not looking to buy out veteran guard Jeremy Lin and big man Dewayne Dedmon, Vivlamore added.
