Free agent Nicholson signs deal in China

Former first-round pick Andrew Nicholson apparently is headed to China.

Free agent forward Andrew Nicholson has agreed to a contract with the Guangdong Tigers of China, according to multiple reports.

Nicholson’s deal is reportedly for one year and $1.7 million.

A 6-foot-9 power forward and former first-round pick of the Orlando Magic, Nicholson was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Portland Trail Blazers after the season. (The Nets received shooting guard Allen Crabbe in return.)

The Blazers waived Nicholson last week, using the stretch provision to “spread out the salary-cap hit on the remainder of his contract,”according to ESPN.

Nicholson, 27, also spent a season with the Washington Wizards, and has played for the Canadian national team.
