Longtime assistant Silas to interview for Hawks opening

Stephen Silas has been a longtime assistant coach in the NBA, most recently with the Hornets.

The Atlanta Hawks will interview Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Stephen Silas for their head coaching vacancy, according to ESPN.

Silas was part of Steve Clifford’s staff with the Hornets — but Clifford was fired after the season. Both Clifford and Silas are now considered candidates for several other openings.

Per Hoops Rumors:

“Silas joins David FizdaleNate TibbettsJarron Collins, and Darvin Ham among head coaching candidates who have interviewed – or will interview – for Atlanta’s job. Ime UdokaJay Larranaga, and James Borrego are also said to be on the Hawks’ radar, though interviews for those three have to be reported.”

Silas is the son of former NBA player and coach Paul Silas and has spent his entire career as an assistant. He filled in admirably for Clifford when Clifford stepped aside for more than a month with health concerns.

The Hawks and Clifford parted ways after the season.
