Marcus Smart continues to be available and the Boston Celtics continue to look for a first-round pick in return. But it’s not the pick they so much want, according to a report from the New York Times.
Instead, the Celtics are looking for a pick to flip — namely, in a package for either Los Angeles Clippers guard Lou Williams or Memphis Grizzlies swingman Tyreke Evans, the Times reported.
Smart, currently out with right-hand lacerations suffered from a non-basketball incident, is averaging 10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists while shooting 35.7 percent from the field..
He will become a restricted free agent this summer, meaning the Celtics don’t know what it will cost to retain the rugged defender since Smart can sign offer sheets with other teams.
The Denver Nuggets are one team that has already been linked to Smart.
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. EST.
