Buddy Hield was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Sacramento Kings before his first NBA season even ended. How did he feel?
“Like I wasn’t wanted,” he said in an interview with Sooner Sports.
Hield was part of a package that delivered All-Star big man DeMarcus Cousins to the Pelicans in mid-February.
“Obviously it was a blockbuster trade with DeMarcus and me,” Hield said. “But it just goes to show how the game is a business.”
Hield is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard. He averaged 8.6 points in 57 games with the Pelicans — but scored 15.1 points in 25 games with the Kings. Also, following the trade, his shooting percentage increased from 39 to 48 percent.
“God moves in mysterious ways, and I feel like He wanted me to be (in Sacramento),” Hield said. “I started to play much better and with more confidence. My game started to elevate much more.”
