Hornets interviewing Blazers assistant Vanterpool

David Vanterpool, right, has been an assistant coach with the Trail Blazers for six seasons.

The Charlotte Hornets are interviewing Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool for their head coaching vacancy, according to ESPN.

Vanterpool, 45, is currently working under Blazers coach Terry Stotts and has been an assistant with the team for the previous six seasons.

He has also interviewed for the Orlando Magic vacancy, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The Hornets parted ways with coach Steve Clifford following the season. Their next hire will be the first for new general manager Mitch Kupchak.

San Antonio Spurs assistant Ettore Messina and former Memphis Grizzlies coach David Fizdale are also reportedly in the running for the job.
