Mirotic returning to Bulls on 2-year deal

Fred Hoiberg says Nikola Mirotic prefers to stay away from the team right now.

Free agent forward Nikola Mirotic is returning to the Chicago Bulls on a two-year contract worth $27 million, according to a report from The Vertical.

Mirotic entered the offseason as a restricted free agent and drew little interest — presumably because other teams assumed the Bulls would match an offer.

“Mirotic and the Bulls held extensive discussions this offseason and reached agreement on a shorter-term contract on Sunday,” The Vertical wrote. “Mirotic was one of the top stretch fours on the market, but fell into a difficult pool of restricted free agency this summer.”

Mirotic, 26, is 6-foot-10 and averaged 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 70 games with the Bulls last season.

Per The Vertical: “At 6-foot-10, he possesses the size and shooting acumen to create mismatches and can be an effective scorer in spots.”
