Cavaliers officially sign point guard Taylor

Former Hawks guard Isaiah Taylor is reportedly headed to the Cavaliers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have officially signed free-agent point guard Isaiah Taylor, according to RealGM’s transactions log (via HoopsRumors.)

Taylor is 6-foot-3 and spent last season with the Atlanta Hawks, appearing in 67 games and averaging 6.6 points and 3.1 assists. He averaged better than 13 points in his nine starts.

He is expected to serve in a backup capacity to rookie Collin Sexton and George Hill — both of whom could start in a two-point-guard system Cavs coach Tyronn Lue is said to be considering.

Canton Charge point guard Scoochie Smith is also expected to compete for a reserve role with the Cavs.

Taylor, 24, went undrafted out of Texas in 2016. He appeared in four games with the Houston Rockets in 2017. He has also spent time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G-League.
