With a rash of injuries and two available roster spots, the Cavaliers needed another player.
They found one Sunday, signing free agent forward Okaro White to a 10-day contract, Yahoo Sports reported.
White is 6-foot-8 and most recently spent time with the Miami Heat — playing 33 games last season and six this one. His last NBA game was Nov. 6 at Golden State. In a game Nov. 3 at Denver, he scored a season-high eight points in 13 minutes.
But he broke his foot during practice drills in mid-November. The injury required surgery and kept White off his feet until January.
“I went up for a regular layup, a regular reverse layup, and just kind of on the way up I just felt it kind of pop,” White told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The Heat traded White to the Atlanta Hawks (for forward Luke Babbitt) on Feb. 8, and the Hawks later waived him.
White, 25, went undrafted out of Florida State in 2014. He has played professionally in Italy, Greece and the G League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
His mother, Charmaine White, is a former member of the Jamaican track team.
