Third team added to Cavs’ pursuit of Hill

George Hill of the Kings remains on the radar of the Cavaliers and Rockets, according to a report.

While the George Hill-to-the-Cleveland Cavaliers trade talks have reportedly been stymied the last couple of days, the Sacramento Kings have apparently reached out to another team to help facilitate sending Hill to Cleveland.

According to a report by Mike Fisher of DallasBasketball.com, Sacramento has connected with the Dallas Mavericks in an effort to help bring the rumored deal to fruition.

With the Mavericks reportedly brought into the discussions, it could result in the Cavaliers having to give up less than the rumored package — Channing Frye, Iman Shumpert and possibly Derrick Rose and a future second-round draft pick — to acquire the 31-year-old Hill.

What would Dallas want from Sacramento to help make rumor become reality?

Fisher explained:

“The Mavs’ price of poker to get involved in a George Hill three-way trade? I’m told the Kings’ second-round pick — which at this moment would be the first pick of the second round and the No. 31 pick overall — would be considered a ‘get’ by Dallas.”

Fisher also wrote about what Sacramento would not want back in a deal for Hill.

“What does Sacto really want here? Obviously, they’re not in love with Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye, the sort of players who Cleveland is dangling. (And exactly the sort of players the Cavs would dangle at Dallas now … and dangled at Dallas a year ago in the Deron Williams talks.)”

The Cavs and Kings are said to be determined to pull off the Hill trade — and in the Cavs’ case, it is likely to be just one of multiple attempted moves prior to the Feb. 8 trade deadline. The Cavs could also be active in the post-deadline buyout frenzy, depending on the deals made beforehand.

  1. Kings should be paying the Cavs some assets to take on Hill’s contract. This deal is so backwards. Speculating but I doubt any other teams want to take on that bad contract. What other teams has Hill been linked with, and how legit are those rumors?

    • Amen!! No way should we be giving up ANY picks to take on a bad contract. Koby is about to get taken AGAIN by a veteran GM.

  2. The thing about this deal that pisses me off is the fact that the Cavs are using Frye and Shumpert as scapegoats, especially Frye. Frye and Shumpert have not even played during this recent losing streak. In fact, Frye was a big part of the Cavs 13 game winning streak. Same can be said for Calderon and Osman. The problem, has been Thomas and Thompson…. as soon as we started playing both Thomas and Thompson, we started losing, and not just losing, but we have looked worse and worse with every game. Thomas and Thompson should be the first 2 names being mentioned in any trade deals we make. Thomas and Thompson are a cancer that needs to be cut out of our team with blockbuster trade surgery, and it needs to happen ASAP.

    • AGREED ! Especially Thompson. The entire problem of going from winning streak to LOSING started with the RE-INSERTION OF TRISTAN THOMPSON into the bench line-up. Immediately clogging up the lane where Tristan can only “hang-out” looking for rebounds, NOT stretching the floor like FRYE for 3’s.
That move destroyed the spacing and Chemistry for the bench, not continuing with slashes to basket with 1 defender but having to contend with multiples since opposing rim protectors stayed home with Tristan. Dumb Coach. ! Everybody in the FRYE, D-wade, Green, Cedi, Korver/ occasionally with Calderon, &/or Lebron had to be guarded for potential 3pt kick out from the paint. FLOOR stays OPEN.
NOT WITH TT. He’s Never going to see 3pt line except to foul someone. Don’t trade Frye, PLAY HIM.
