It looks as if Tuesday will be another opportunity for Larry Drew to remain undefeated as acting coach of the Cavaliers.
Drew, it appears, will once again be the main main on the sidelines — as ESPN reported coach Tyronn Lue is not ready to return from an undisclosed health ailment that has kept him away from the team for more than a week.
The Cavs are 4-0 in that span. They visit old friend Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat on Tuesday.
With just nine games remaining, there is still no firm timeline for Lue to get back on the Cavs’ bench. Instead, he will be “evaluated on a game to game basis moving forward in order to determine his return,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin tweeted, citing a league source.
Lue coached the Cavs to the franchise’s lone title in 2016. He and Drew have remained in regular contact since Drew took over the reigns.
“Sometimes you have to play the hand that’s dealt to you,” Drew said. “And certainly, it was unfortunate what happened with Coach Lue. And the way our guys have responded … You go through the course of a season, and you deal with a lot of different things. And when you do that, you don’t know whether you’re going to be able to overcome it.
“And I think for our team, we really rallied, No. 1, around Coach Lue, when the organization made the decision that he was going to step away for a few games. We rallied around him. We rallied around one another.”
