Dennis Smith Jr. is only a rookie, only 19 years old. But he seems to think the Dallas Mavericks’ backcourt could be the next big thing.
It’s a backcourt, of course, that also features Seth Curry, the younger brother of You Know Who. And this Curry is coming into his own.
Smith the point guard and Curry the shooting guard? The future main men of the Mavs?
“I think we can be a big-time backcourt in the NBA,” Smith said, the Dallas Morning News. “(Curry) is a really good player and I don’t think he gets enough credit for how good he is. A lot of people sleep on him. But we see it every day here.”
Smith is 6-foot-2 and was the No. 9 overall pick in the draft out of NC State. He has a big believer in has a believer in longtime Mavs coach Rick Carlisle.
“He’s making some spectacular plays and there’s always going to be some mistakes you got to learn from,” Carlisle said. “But his attitude is great and the physical element he brings to the team is unlike anything we’ve ever had at the point.”
