The Los Angeles Clippers are “resistant” in taking back Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Wesley Matthews in a potential trade centered on center DeAndre Jordan, according to the New York Times.
Jordan can opt out of his contract and become a free agent on Friday.
“Dallas must either present an alternative trade scenario (Los Angeles) accepts or try to sign Jordan in free agency if he indeed declines next season’s $24.1 million,” according to the Times.
The Mavericks and Clippers have been discussing several trade scenarios involving Jordan.
If Jordan opts out and becomes a free agent, he and other big men such as All-Star DeMarcus Cousins of New Orleans and Clint Capela of Houston will become the top targets for the Mavericks. Cousins, coming off a torn Achilles’ tendon suffered in January, is an unrestricted free agent, while Capela will be a restricted free agent.
