Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond was all smiles while speaking to reporters Tuesday night after the team’s home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, as he had quite the day.
Before tipoff against the Cavs, Drummond was named as John Wall‘s injury replacement in the All-Star Game on Team LeBron.
Then, the big man torched the Cavs for 21 points and 22 rebounds, helping the Pistons snap an eight-game losing streak.
While discussing the win in the postgame locker room, Drummond made his first public comments about the blockbuster trade that sent Blake Griffin to the Motor City.
“I’m excited,” Drummond told reporters. “It’s a new chapter. We’ve got three new guys coming in, so it’s something to really look forward to. Obviously, Blake is a hell of a player, a great passer, so I’m looking forward to building this new empire with him.
“I know Blake very well. I talked to him immediately after the trade. He’s excited to be here, excited to play with us. Obviously, when (point guard) Reggie (Jackson) gets back, he’s excited to play with him, too.”
The Pistons are 23-26, ninth place in the Eastern Conference. The hope is that Griffin’s arrival will boost Detroit up the standings in a weak East.
