Former No. 2 pick Williams headlines Pistons mini-camp

NBA journeyman and former No. 2 overall draft pick Derrick Williams is among the free agents with recent experience.

Former second overall draft pick Derrick Williams will take part in a free agent mini-camp hosted by the Detroit Pistons, according to the team’s website.

Williams, 27, was selected second by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2011 — one spot after the Cleveland Cavaliers took Kyrie Irving (now with the Boston Celtics).

Since that time, Williams has mostly served as high-energy combo forward and NBA journeyman. He has spent time with the Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Cavaliers and finished this past season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
