Legendary forward Dirk Nowtizki has officially signed a deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced Monday.
The deal is for one year and $5 million, and means the 40-year-old Nowitzki will be entering his 21st season with the Mavs. According to Yahoo Sports, the sides are in no rush to sign the deal.
“The Mavs declined Nowitzki’s $5MM team option in June, but wound up giving him the same figure, which will use up the last of their cap space,” explained Arthur Hill of HoopsRumors.
In 77 games last season, Nowitzki averaged 12.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists, shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from 3-point range.
He underwent ankle surgery in June but is expected to be ready for training camp.
