The New Orleans Pelicans and free agent big man Jahlil Okafor are in discussions on a possible deal that would bring the former No. 3 overall pick to training camp, according to a report from Scott Kushner of the New Orleans Advocate.
“Nothing formalized at this point but certainly an interesting, low-risk option for the Pelicans who lack a traditional center at the moment,” Kushner tweeted.
Okafor is 6-foot-11 and was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2015. He averaged 17.5 points during his rookie season, but began to fall out of favor with the organization and slid out of the rotation.
He finished last season with the Brooklyn Nets, appearing in 26 games and compiling averages of 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds.
The Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat have also reportedly expressed an interest in Okafor.
