Joel Embiid was a late scratch and the Philadelphia 76ers lost their fourth straight — 131-124 on the road to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.
Those two things are likely related.
Embiid spoke to reporters in New Orleans after the game, and the star center said he injured his back in a home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.
“Today, I tried to go,” he said. “But I was still feeling a little tightness. So I’ve just got to keep resting for a couple of days and see how it feels day by day.
“But it’s been getting better. … I expect to play maybe on Tuesday” at home vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves. “But you just wait and see.”
Sixers coach Brett Brown told reporters he didn’t learn Embiid would miss Sunday’s game until 35 minutes before tipoff.
The 7-footer is averaging 23.5 points and 11.1 rebounds in 21 games. He sat out Saturday’s loss at Cleveland for the purpose of rest.
