The Miami Heat have declined the $1.6 million option on Jordan Mickey’s contract, sending the third-year center into free agency, Yahoo Sports reported.
Mickey is 6-foot-8 and averaged career-highs of 4.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 23 games.
He spent his first two seasons with the Boston Celtics after they selected him in the second round (No. 33 overall) of the 2015 draft. He appeared in a combined 41 games with Boston.
“Although Mickey will now be eligible for restricted free agency, I wouldn’t expect the Heat to extend him a qualifying offer, which would be worth more than his team option,” wrote Luke Adams of HoopsRumors. “He’s more likely to hit the open market on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent.”
