Smith considering NBA return to Rockets

Josh Smith played in three games for the Pelicans.

Free agent Josh Smith is contemplating a return to the NBA and is looking specifically at the Houston Rockets, according to multiple reports.

Smith, 31, is a 6-foot-9 power forward. He last played for the Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association.

He entered the NBA straight out of high school, spent his first nine seasons with the Atlanta Hawks (2004-13), then moved on to the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers and Rockets.

“Just spoke with Josh Smith, formerly with the Rockets,” The Dream Shake tweeted (via HoopsHype). “Very interested in a return to the team and a deal could be in the works soon.”

Smith has compiled career averages of 14.6 points and 7.5 rebounds — but averaged just 6.0 and 3.3, respectively, over his last three stops.

The Rockets have already added Chris Paul, Luc Mbah a Moute and P.J. Tucker this offseason, and have been at the center of the Carmelo Anthony trade discussions with the New York Knicks.

Cleveland and Brooklyn had also expressed a passing interest in Smith after the season.
