Los Angeles Lakers forward Channing Frye is nearing a return following an emergency appendectomy in mid-February, according to Spectrum SportsNet.
Frye, 34, has appeared in just one game with the Lakers since arriving in a Feb. 8 trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers. But he has been cleared to begin non-contact basketball activities and a clearer status update is expected by week’s end.
He is averaging 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 44 total games this season.
Along with the Lakers and Cavs, the 6-foot-11 Frye has spent time with the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic.
He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of season.
