LaVar Ball was recently critical of Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton and the Lakers’ front office did not voice their support for Walton following the comments by Ball.
Now, agents and executives around the league believe Walton’s days in LA could be numbered.
According to ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst, the Lakers do not fully support Walton and NBA executives and agents suspect former Memphis Grizzlies coach David Fizdale could be Walton’s replacement.
“Whatever you want to say about LaVar Ball, he has smoked out the fact that the Lakers do not support Luke Walton. And that is now crystal clear,” Windhorst said on the Rich Eisen show.
“And there are now guys out there wondering openly to me—executives, coaches, agents—who the Lakers are going to hire as their next coach. Because that has been revealed here: That they do not have unconditional support for Luke. I got executives in my ear, I got agents in my ear, saying, ‘Oh yeah, they’re probably going to hire David Fizdale.’”
Windhorst also mentioned Fizdale’s close connection with LeBron James and how James defended Fizdale after Memphis fired the former Heat assistant coach.
“Which coach has LeBron Tweeted about most recently? Los Angeles native David Fizdale.”
