Grizzies shopping Parsons, attaching No. 4 pick

The Memphis Grizzlies are exploring the possible trade return for Chandler Parsons and the No. 4 overall pick in Thursday’s draft, according to a report from Michael Scotto of The Athletic.

Parsons, 29, has missed a combined 94 games over the previous two seasons — and is still owed $49.2 million before his contract expires in the summer of 2020.

The 6-foot-9 small forward appeared in 36 games last season, averaging 7.9 points and 2.5 rebounds. That is down from his career scoring average of 13.1 points per game.

While it may be difficult to move that large contract, some teams are already interested in obtaining the fourth pick and working on a potential Parsons buyout.

Parsons has also spent time with the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks.

As Scotto also reported, the Brooklyn Nets may be looking to package picks and shooting guard Spencer Dinwiddie to move up in the draft.

  1. I’ve commented before that I would like to see CAVS Love traded for 4th pick and Parsons. Even include Cedi if needed. I believe Love would mesh well with Gasol and he is on the same career level as Gasol and Conley. A win for both teams.

    • I’d hate to see the Cavs trade away Cedi as a throw in even though the three of James, Parsons and James basically play the same position. At some time, Cleveland needs to start developing some players. However if one has to be thrown in, why not throw in Clarkson?

      • I wasn’t thinking of Cedi as a throw in. I believe he has value and would include IF needed to beat another teams (SUNS?) offer. Also if you look at Parsons numbers he is not as bad as portrayed. Didn’t play a lot but productive when he did. One of first games where he got booed by home fans got a ton of media attention and affected peoples opinion. I agree we need to develop young players but Luca Doncic or Jaren Jackson have a high enough ceiling to be franchise players. What if you had Jaren Jackson, Mo Bamba, and Lebron on front line?

  2. interesting what kind of assets are they looking for with this salary dump? Especially with this high of pick. Obviously they don’t value that slot in this year’s draft.
