The Memphis Grizzlies intend to shut down swingman Tyreke Evans until they are able to trade him sometime between now and the Feb. 8 deadline, according to a report from ESPN.
Evans has been linked to at least seven teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers.
While the Grizzlies have struggled, Evans is having one of his best seasons — initiating offense for others, leading in the locker room and averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds.
“A lot of people doubted me,” Evans recently told reporters. “No one expected me to come back and play the way I’ve been playing.”
The 28-year-old Evans is one of the biggest bargains in the league — having signed a one-year pact with the Grizzlies for $3.3 million in July.
