Popular FOX Sports Ohio sideline reporter Allie Clifton is leaving to become the studio host for Spectrum SportsNet broadcasts of Los Angeles Lakers games, a source close to the hiring process told Amico Hoops.
Clifton has been working for FSO since before LeBron James returned to the franchise in 2014. He left again in July, for those very Lakers.
While not identifying what Clifton will be doing next, FOX Sports Ohio released a statement confirming she has moved on from the station, via Kevin Kleps of Crain’s.
“We can confirm Allie Clifton is no longer with FOX Sports Ohio as the Cavaliers sideline reporter,” the statement read. “While we are sad to see her go, we appreciate her contributions to our Cavs broadcasts and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
A native of Van Wert, Ohio, Clifton played college basketball at Toledo from 2006-10. She began her broadcasting career as a sports reporter for WTVG Ch. 13 in Toledo, before being hired by FSO in 2012.
A number of candidates are expected to emerge quickly for the Cavs/FSO sideline reporting job, with former FOX Sports Wisconsin broadcaster Telly Hughes already being rumored as a potential candidate. Hughes was let go as the Milwaukee Bucks’ sideline reporter following the season.
