The New Orleans Pelicans will sign free-agent forward Josh Smith, according to a report from The Vertical.
Smith, 31, will join the team under an injury hardship exception, the report added.
Smith is a 6-foot-9 power forward and last played for the Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association.
He entered the NBA straight out of high school, and spent his first nine seasons with the Atlanta Hawks (2004-13). He then moved on to stints with the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets.
“Smith, a 12-year NBA veteran, is expected to provide the Pelicans with additional frontcourt depth and playmaking,” The Vertical wrote.
